„It’s not a war is happening now is an extermination of men,” written at the front, the soldier Papillon Marcel in January 1915. That’s how contemporaries perceived the rapidly both appalling and unprecedented from what was not yet the Great War. How to explain the outbreak of the conflict? Why do soldiers have held? How to explain the „myth” Verdun? How the image of women in war was it built? How about the Great War today? … In thirty questions, this volume, supported by the most significant achievements of historiography, presents the salient features of the conflict. Whether it intends to give up all their players to the practices of the time, he also reports of sometimes bitter debate and decrypts the issues that, over the twentieth century, surrounding the memory of war still surprisingly present in our contemporary societies.
