From Seed to Skillet

Jimmy Williams caught the gardening bug early after planting his first seeds at age four. He learned everything he could at the knee of his grandmother – a South Carolina native who grew up in a traditional Gullah community whose members were descendents of Caribbean slaves. As an adult, Jimmy’s career took him far from the garden, but when the pull of the soil became too strong, he started growing full time, planting collard greens, tomatoes, and squash in every crevice of his Los Angeles backyard. Today Jimmy is a familiar sight at a variety of farmers’ markets where he sells vegetables and seedlings, including heirloom tomatoes grown from seeds handed down to him from his great, great grandmother. He has made a name for himself for his garden design expertise and natural, organic growing techniques.
